All-Star outfielder Josh Hamilton had his most intense day of rehab from two broken ribs Monday -- running at full strength, without much pain from breathing heavily; shagging flyballs with no problems; and taking 25 swings off a tee in the batting cage with a fungo bat. His latissimus dorsi muscle tightened some after swinging but not as badly as it did last week. Swinging a heavier normal bat could come today. Throwing, he said, would be the last baseball activity he attempts.
Hamilton said he understands the need to ramp up his activities with the end of the regular season seven games away. He hopes to know in a few days if he can return before the American League Division Series. "That seems reasonable," he said. "It's better now than it was a few days ago. Hopefully, it'll keep going that way."
