The first two New York hitters made good contact against C.J. Wilson in the first inning, but the left-hander survived for a 1-2-3 first inning. Derek Jeter hit a sharp grounder that Elvis Andrus flagged down for the first out, and Nick Swisher sent Josh Hamilton into left-center field to track down a line drive. New No. 3 hitter Robinson Cano, replacing Mark Teixeira, then grounded out weakly to second base. Wilson completed the inning in 11 pitches.
Due up for Rangers (with playoff averages): Nelson Cruz (.371), Ian Kinsler (.313), Jeff Francoeur (.143).
