The Rangers have swapped out Alexi Ogando with Dustin Nippert on the playoff roster. Ogando suffered a strained left oblique muscle in the sixth inning of Game 4. He was due to see team doctors today, but manager Ron Washington did not have any updates. Nippert was on the roster for the ALDS, pitching an inning in Game 3. He was the choice over fellow right-hander Scott Feldman and a bevy of lefties. "We wanted a righty," Washington said. "We've got enough lefties."
The bullpen appears to be down to three dependable arms -- Darren O'Day, Darren Oliver and Neftali Feliz. That doesn't sound like much, but Washington said those are the three pitches he wants late in a close game, whether to protect a narrow lead or keep the Giants from extending a lead. Feliz could be called upon to get four or five outs in any game the rest of the way, Washington said.
Vladimir Guerrero remains in the cleanup spot even though he struck out three times in Game 4 and looked bad doing so. Washington continues to hold out faith in Guerrero, who is 1 for 10 in the World Series and has struck out 15 times this postseason.
The Rangers would leave for San Francisco tonight and work out at AT&T Park tomorrow afternoon should they avoid elimination in Game 5.
