Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said that the club is planning to have Michael Young in spring training this weekend and as a part of the 2011 team as attempts to satisify his request for a trade have been unsuccessful.
The club, Daniels said, will try to reach out to Young within the coming days to update him on the trade progress and to help clear the air before he arrives to the Surprise Recreation Campus. It is their belief that Young won't do anything to cause a distraction.
Attempts to trade Young will continue, barring a reconciliation between the six-time All-Star and the club. Position players must report Saturday for the first full-squad workout Sunday.
"We're not going to set a deadline or anything like that," Daniels said. "Once he's here, we're going to move forward with the business of baseball. If something happens after that point, we'll address it. That's where we are."
