Rangers vs. Blue Jays postgame notes

It's kind of slim pickings after a night like Tuesday.

Matt Harrison summed up his performance the best of all. "It's a night I want to forget," Harrison said.

On the bright side, the Rangers 7-8-9 hitters accounted for seven of the team's 10 hits.

The three-hit night by Yorvit Torrealba was his first three-hit showing since Aug. 10, 2010.

Chris Davis had two extra-base hits for the first time in the majors since April 14, 2010.

The Jays have homered in 13-consecutive games against the Rangers. The record is held by the Angels at 17.

Rangers Tomko feels better after second appearance

Brett Tomko saved the Texas bullpen some extra work with his five innings of relief Tuesday. Tomko pitched for the Rangers for the first time Sunday and was done in by a three-run homer.

He allowed another three-run homer Tuesday to Adam Lind in his first inning of work. But he settled down after that, allowing just one hit over his final four innings. He also struck out five in his five innings.

"After I came in and settled down a little bit and tried to stay simple and stay within my mechanics I felt pretty good," Tomko said. "It's probably the best I've felt all season. I struggled a little bit down there in Triple A mechanically and I kind of figured some things out in the last couple of days and I felt pretty good."

Blue Jays Jo-Jo Reyes vs. Rangers

Toronto left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes has only faced the Rangers once in his career, with that start coming in 2008. He was with Atlanta then and pitched seven innings, allowing just one earned run. This year Reyes is 0-2 with a 6.20 ERA.

One Rangers player he will be facing for the first time is Mike Napoli. Texas manager Ron Washington said Tuesday that Napoli would play Wednesday.

Rangers Derek Holland vs. Blue Jays

Texas will lean on left-hander Derek Holland Wednesday in its bid to end a two-game slide to Toronto. Holland (3-1) has struggled in his career against Toronto, going 1-1 wiht an 8.71 ERA in three games.

Blue Jays 10, Rangers 3 (F)

ARLINGTON - Texas left-hander Matt Harrison delivered his first clunker of the season and the Rangers never recovered as Toronto steamrolled them 10-3.

Harrison (3-1), who had allowed six earned runs in his first four starts, gave up seven in three innings Tuesday as the Blue Jays won their second-consecutive game at Rangers Ballpark.

Harrison was lucky to make it out of the first as he was touched for five runs on four hits as Toronto send nine batters to the plate. Texas briefly rallied, scoring three runs in the second to cut the deficit to 5-3, but Harrison's woes continued in the third.

Adam Lind opened that inning with the first of his two homers in the game and Toronto tacked on another run. Harrison gave up eight hits in three innings and walked three. His ERA jumped from 1.88 to 3.69.

Toronto tacked on three runs in the fourth and it finished with 11 hits.

The Rangers had 10 hits, with Julio Borbon picking up two RBIs and Yorvit Torrealba one. Michael Young went 0 for 4, ending his hitting streak at 15 games.

Chris Davis starts for the third time since coming up April 12 to replace Josh Hamilton. Davis, at first base for Mitch Moreland, has had two strikes against him in all seven of his plate appearances.

Tuesday pregame Rangers notes

Josh Hamilton played catch, took flyballs and ran the bases Tuesday before the Rangers took batting practice, and said that today is the best his broken right humerus (upper arm) bone has felt since he broke it two weeks ago. He had a new set of x-rays taken Friday, and Hamilton said that Dr. Keith Meister was somewhat encouraged by the results.

Hamilton said that he will not travel with the Rangers for their upcoming road trip to Oakland and Seattle, choosing to stay back so that he can accomplish more with his rehab. Hamilton has swung the bat with his left arm, but full swings will be the last thing he attempts. The Rangers initially said it would take a month before he could swing.

Mitch Moreland gets a day off today after appearing in 15 straight games, 14 of them starts. David Murphy, who has played each game since Josh Hamilton was injured April 11, is also in line for a day off soon. Nelson Cruz, though, won't get a full day off. Manager Ron Washington said that he needs Cruz's presence in the lineup and will give Cruz a chance to work out of his current 6-for-30 slump rather than give him a day off.

Darren O'Day (left hip) has told the coaching staff that he is healthy and ready to pitch in games after no throwing since Wednesday. Washington said that he was going to consult with pitching coach Mike Maddux to determine the next step for O'Day.

Blue Jays Jesse Litsch vs. Rangers

Toronto called up right-hander Jesse Litsch to make Tuesday's start against the Rangers. Litsch was 1-1 with a 3.63 ERA before he got sent down. He's made two career starts vs. the Rangers, and is 1-0 with a 5.06 ERA in those games. He hasn't faced Texas since 2008.

Rangers vs. Jays Monday postgame notes

Everyone in the Texas clubhouse was still trying to figure out how Corey Patterson hit the three-run homer off Colby Lewis. The pitch was up and away and Patterson pulled it. Michael Young said he couldn't do that.

The Rangers have lost a series opener for just the second time this season.

The last Texas pitcher to allow three homers in a game was Cliff Lee last year.

Nelson Cruz hit a homer on an 0-2 pitch for just the third time in his career.

Michael Young's 15 game hitting streak i the sixth longest of his career.

The Jays have homered in 12-consecutive games against the Rangers.
