Rangers offering free ticket in wake of fireworks cancellation

The Texas Rangers tonight announced that all fans holding tickets to Friday’s game with the Kansas City Royals will have the chance to attend a future 2011 game free of charge.

All fans holding a ticket to Friday’s game can receive a free upper reserved ticket to one of the following nine future games, subject to availability:

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, April 26, 27, and 28 vs. Toronto

Tuesday and Wednesday, May 10 and 11 vs. Oakland

Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24 and 25 vs. the Chicago White Sox

Tuesday and Wednesday, June 7 and 8 vs. Detroit

Tonight’s fireworks show will be rescheduled for Tuesday, June 7 vs. Detroit.

Fans can exchange their tickets from tonight’s game for any of the nine future games listed above, subject to availability, at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington West Box Office during normal business hours beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, April 25.

The club announced the ticket offer following the cancellation of Friday’s post-game fireworks show by City of Arlington Fire Department due to high winds in the area. The Rangers were not notified of the Arlington Fire Department’s decision until the top of the 9th inning.

“The Rangers want to apologize to all of our fans for the cancellation of tonight’s fireworks show,” said Rangers CEO & President Nolan Ryan. “However, the safety of our fans comes first, and the wind conditions were deemed to be too strong to shoot the fireworks.

“As a result, we are offering every fan holding a ticket to tonight’s game a free upper reserved ticket to a future 2011 game subject to availability. That includes the makeup date for tonight’s fireworks show on Tuesday, June 7. We thank everyone for their understanding of this situation and for being loyal Rangers fans.”

Great business move for Rangers. Give fans tickets that wouldn't have otherwise sold (so revenue loss on ticket sales). If fans do take you up on offer you get ticket revenue, food and drink, etc. Plus makes the organization appear fan friendly.

If the Rangers were notified in the Top of the 9th, why did they wait until 30 minutes after the game to announce the cancellation. If they didn't want people to leave during the game, they still could have announced immediately after the game.

Yes that is true for the free ticket to up-coming game but i would rather have seen fireworks on a friday than a weekday because of the lateness of the time of game. And yes if they knew it was cancelled why wait till 30 min after game to announce?

Way to go Rangers! A very fan friendly thing to do. You were not obligated to do anything. Going to a game for free is a good way to get hooked.

I appreciate the gesture, and accept the ticket and will go to another game, ..... remember we all also won a free Taco Friday, God Bless America and Go Rangers!
