Rangers put closer Feliz on 15-day DL

Texas closer Neftali Feliz has been put on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said that Feliz has inflammation in his rotator cuff and he hopes that 15 days on the DL is all he'll need.

The move is retroactive to Friday. The Rangers have called up right-hander Cody Eppley to take the roster spot of Feliz. The team also moved Eric Hurley to the 60-man disabled list.

Feliz had regular soreness in spring training. He mentioned soreness last weekend when the Rangers were in New York. He last pitched Wednesday and was tight Friday.

"If he was 33 instead of 23 we may treat it a little differently, but given his age and what he means to the club we're going to play this one on the safe side," Daniels said. "We could have very easily given him a couple of days off and seen how this goes. We don't want to take any chances here."

Feliz has five saves and a 1.08 ERA in eight appearances. Eppley had three saves for Round Rock and didn't allow a run in six appearances.

The loss of Feliz likely means that Arthur Rhodes, Darren Oliver and Darren O'Day will have save opportunities for the next two weeks.

The bats had better perk up because those three are like driving a horse drawn wagon full of nitro.
