Cuban outfielder working out for Rangers

Leonys Martin, who defected from Cuba last year, is doing conditioning work at extending spring training in Surprise, Ariz., in anticipation that his deal with the Rangers will be completed this week.

The center fielder and the Rangers agreed to terms on a major-league deal in early April, and the Rangers have been waiting for the State Department to finalize his paperwork. He will stay at extended spring training for a period before being assigned to a minor-league club, probably Double A Frisco.
