FOX Sports Southwest will celebrate Independence Day on this weekend’s Texas Rangers’ telecasts with special features honoring the United States military, firefighters and police officers.
“A Salute to Our Heroes” will be the theme for telecasts on Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3 when the Rangers host the Florida Marlins, and on Monday’s July 4th holiday game against the Baltimore Orioles
A group of over 50 wounded soldiers recuperating at Fort Sill’s Warrior Transition unit in Oklahoma will ride to Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on the FOX Sports Southwest Fan Express, a 56-passenger VIP luxury coach wrapped in full-scale Rangers player images, to attend Saturday’s game courtesy of FOX Sports Southwest and the Texas Rangers.
FOX Sports Southwest reporter Greg Kerr and a camera crew will be on the bus to document the trip. Segments of the bus ride will be shown on Saturday’s game and on a feature story on an upcoming episode of FSSW’s Rangers Insider weekly magazine show. The soldiers also will be interviewed during Saturday’s game by FOX Sports Southwest Rangers reporter Jim Knox.
Taped messages from Rangers players in English and Spanish thanking the military troops and first responders for putting their lives on the line to keep America safe at home and abroad will be shown throughout each game. Saturday’s game will focus on the Armed Forces, while Sunday’s game will showcase local police officers and firefighters.
The July 4th telecast will feature “shout-outs” from local Airmen stationed at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan directed to their loved ones back home. The telecast will open with the national anthem and F-16 jet fighter flyover, and also will include highlights from the Air Force induction ceremony that will take place on the field before the game. Portions of the postgame fireworks show will be carried on Rangers Live after the game.
