CLEVELAND -- Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz swatted home runs in the seventh inning to break open a close game, and Alexi Ogando allowed only a run on four hits in eighth inning as the Rangers pulled away from Cleveland 11-2 on Friday night at Progressive Field.
The Rangers were up only 2-1 in the seventh when Hamilton hit an 0-2 fastball out to right field for a three-run homer. After an Adrian Beltre flyball fell between Indians outfielder Michael Brantley and Shin-Soo Choo two batters later, Nelson Cruz crushed the first pitch he saw from Tony Sipp for a two-run homer.
Elvis Andrus, when went 4 for 5, delivered a three-run double in the eighth to make it 10-1, and Endy Chavez capped a 3-for-5 game with an RBI single in the ninth. He's 7 for 9 so far in the series.
Ogando didn't need much support. He allowed the first two Indians to reach in the sixth while leading 2-0, but only one scored as he got Choo to bounce into a double play. Ogando threw 100 pitches in eight innings, striking out six and walking one as he improved to 6-0.
