Derek Holland shouldn’t have to worry about losing his rotation spot anytime soon.
Holland had his best start in more than a month, leading the Texas Rangers to a 6-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics to open a four-game series on Thursday night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Holland went the distance for the second time this season and third time in his career, holding the A’s scoreless on four hits. It is up there with arguably his best career start when he threw a three-hitter against the Angels in Los Angeles on Aug. 9, 2009.
Holland retired 13 of the final 16 batters he faced, and finished with seven strikeouts.
The Rangers’ offense came through once again, too.
Josh Hamilton drove in a run in all four of his at-bats – a run-scoring groundout, a single to right and two sacrifice flies.
Michael Young led off the fifth inning with a solo shot, his eighth homer of the year.
