Saturday pregame Rangers injury updates

Right fielder Nelson Cruz likely won't play again this weekend on the AstroTurf at Rogers Centre as manager Ron Washington plays it cautious with Cruz's tight left quadriceps. Cruz said the injury was suffered between innings Friday while playing catch. He reached for a wide throw, and his spikes caught in the turf. Washington declared Cruz fit to pinch-hit.

Shortstop Elvis Andrus isn't in the lineup today to give his sore right knee a rest. Another victim of the turf, Andrus twisted the knee Friday. Andrus, however, could play Sunday.

Josh Hamilton gets the day off even though he's fine physically. He said that he felt the lack of an All-Star break for the first time Friday on the turf. "After two or three games, you're sore," he said. "It's tougher to bounce back on this stuff."

Third baseman Adrian Beltre (left hamstring) played catch this morning. Utility infielder Andres Blanco (back) will play shortstop for nine innings today and Sunday at Triple A Round Rock and join the Rangers in Detroit.
