Berkman says 'ship has sailed' on potential trade

With Nelson Cruz landing on the disabled list, the Texas Rangers contacted the St. Louis Cardinals about the availability of Lance Berkman.

No headway had been made on a possible trade, according to baseball sources, that would need to be done by 11 p.m. Wednesday for Berkman to be eligible for the postseason.

A trade seems highly unlikely now, as Berkman told reporters on Tuesday that he doesn't want to be traded.

"I don't want to be traded. I don't think they want to trade me," Berkman said. "I think myself and the Cardinals are on the same page."

And Berkman said this of a possible deal by Thursday: "I think that ship has sailed."
