Nelson Cruz pulled up limp when he went into second base on a double in the sixth inning on Sunday night. He thought Angels rightfielder Torii Hunter would make a diving catch and began to stop as he rounded first, but kicked it back into full gear once the ball skipped past Hunter.
That's when Cruz felt his left hamstring pull. He left the game, and immediately thought for the worst.
"I thought it was really bad," Cruz said. "But after I got treatment, it was definitely more normal. Hopefully, it's something that will take only a few days."
Cruz will have his hamstring re-evaluated on Monday.
Cruz had two stints on the disabled list last season with a left hamstring strain (May 30-June 21 and Aug. 16-29). He has been on the DL once this season with a strained right quadriceps muscle, May 4-23.
It would be unlikely Cruz would be placed on the DL this time around, though, with rosters expanding on Thursday.
