Cooper Stone to throw out Game 1 first pitch

Cooper Stone, son of Shannon Stone, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 1 of the Rangers-Rays best-of-five American League Division Series.

Shannon Stone, a Brownwood firefighter, passed away after falling approximately 20 feet from the left-field stands on July 7 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, as he attended the game with Cooper, who was 6-years-old.

The Rangers will erect a statue of Shannon and Cooper behind the home plate gate to show what the team is about -- making family memories. They hope to have it done by opening day of next season.

The Rangers will also raise all of their front-row railings to 42 inches this offseason to try and prevent any further accidents like that from happening in the future. On July 6, 2010, Tyler Morris fell approximately 30 feet from the second-level into the lower bowl.

I'm thrilled that Cooper will be the one. While I hate the way this came about, I think that it will serve to help heal some wounds. With the possibility that some of Cooper's family will see this, I'd like him to know that the entire community embraces him. His daddy will be looking down from Heaven and cheering Cooper. Go get 'em Cooper! And to Josh Hamilton...I don't really know how I would have dealt with what occured earlier this year. You are an inspiration as to how you have handled this. Many would have "run away" from the situation. God Bless You, and god Bless the Stone family.
