A crazy night in the major leagues just came to an remarkable finish. Minutes after Baltimore rallied with two outs to beat Boston -- a rally that started with a Chris Davis double -- Evan Longoria hit a walk-off homer with one out in the 12th to cap a comeback from a 7-0 hole and send Tampa Bay into the postseason as the wild-card team.
That means that the Rangers, the No. 2 seed in the playoffs after their own dramatic win to close the regular season, will host the Rays in the best-of-5 American League Division Series. Game 1 is set for 4:07 p.m. Friday at Rangers Ballpark.
It's a rematch of the 2010 ALDS, which the Rangers won in five games. That series opened at Tampa Bay, and the road team won all five games. The teams will work out Thursday at Rangers Ballpark, with the Rangers scheduled to hit the field at 4 p.m. after flying home tonight. Their buses headed to the airport right after Tampa Bay won.
The Rangers went 5-4 against Tampa Bay this season. Both teams enter the playoffs as the hottest teams in the majors. The Rangers finished the season with six straight wins, and Tampa Bay won five straight.
