Wrapping up Rangers 9-0 loss to Rays in ALDS Game 1

Here are a few postgame notes following the Rangers' 9-0 loss to the Rays in Game 1 of the American League Division Series on Friday afternoon at Rangers Ballpark.

* Texas was shut out in a postseason game for the seventh time in team history. The San Francisco Giants held it scoreless in two World Series games last season. The Rangers are still searching for the first home victory in an ALDS, as they are 0-7 in them all-time. They defeated the Rays last season, 3-2, but won all of the games on the road.

* C.J. Wilson fell to 1-3 with a 4.91 ERA in his career in the postseason. He struggled from the start, allowing eight runs (six earned) on seven hits -- three of which were homers -- with one walk and six strikeouts over five innings.

* Josh Hamilton had both of the Rangers' hits on Friday. He had a single in the first inning, and a double to lead off the fourth inning. Hamilton bunted in the sixth inning, but it wasn't a sacrifice bunt. He was trying to beat the Rays' shift they put on against him.

* Scott Feldman made his postseason debut, throwing three scoreless innings in relief of Wilson. He struck out four, and held the Rays to two hits.

* Matt Harrison recorded two outs in the ninth inning. It should be viewed as nothing more than Harrison getting his routine work in. He will still start Game 3 or 4, if necessary.

* The Rangers clubhouse wasn't too down about the loss. After all, they have shown the ability to bounce back following losses several times this season. "We don't care what the loss is," Michael Young said. "A loss is a loss. We need to come out and play our game [in Game 2]. We don't get too wrapped up in what went wrong tonight. We're going to focus on things we do well and we expect it to happen [Saturday]." Added Mike Napoli: "I expect us to come back. It's one game. There's nothing you can do about it, they beat us today."

* Even with the Game 1 loss, Game 2 starter Derek Holland doesn't feel any added pressure. "No man, I'm good, "Holland said. "I've just have to out there and pitch."

* Fort Worth native Kelly Shoppach had quite a day for the Rays. He went 3 for 5 with two home runs and five RBIs. "It is nice to come back and play for these people who helped me get to this point," said Shoppach, who hit .176 during the regular season. "What a day. What a way to honor those people."

This lauza faire attitude of the players and WASH drives me crazy. No where else in any other sport do we see or hear such 'give ah sh&&' attitudes.

Everything they worked for, for six months now favors the Rays' because they mailed it in against a 22 year kid.
