Here are a few pregame notes before Game 2 of the American League Championship Series.
* Ron Washington talked about the game being postponed because of the threat of rain. “I looked outside my window all night [Sunday], and it never came,” Washington said. “I’d rather play, but I’m glad I didn’t have to make that call.”
* Washington said he won’t use his bullpen differently even though the team will play four straight games. Alexi Ogando wouldn’t have been available on Sunday, but is now available for Game 2. “However we have to do it, we’re going to do it,” Washington said.
* Washington said the team never considered moving Ogando back into the rotation for the ALCS. Once they moved Ogando to the bullpen for the postseason, he was going to stay there. And, as Washington said, “He’s a tremendous tool to have at my exposal.”
* Nelson Cruz belted a home run in Game 1 off Justin Verlander, and Washington believes that a player can find his timing at the plate with one swing. But Washington warned that it’s premature to say Cruz is back just because of the home run. “You can judge it if he starts popping singles around the ballpark,” Washington said. “Hitting the ball up the middle. Hitting it to right-center, left-center. Then you can start saying his swing is coming.”
