Orioles claim O'Day

Darren O'Day has been claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles.

O'Day, a right-handed submarine reliever, spent the past two-plus seasons with the Texas Rangers. He appeared in only 16 games in an injury-plagued 2011, going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA.

He was on the 60-day disabled list from April 27-July 1 with a partial tear of labrum in left hip, and the 15-day DL Aug. 25-Sept. 12 with right shoulder inflammation. O'Day didn't make any of the Rangers' postseason rosters.

O'Day, 29, is 8-5 with a 2.89 ERA and two saves in 186 major league relief appearances with the Angels (2008), Mets (2009) and Rangers (2009-11). Texas claimed O'Day on waivers from the Mets on April 22, 2009.

He went 2-1 with a 1.94 ERA in 64 games with the Rangers in 2009, and 6-3 with a 2.03 ERA in 72 apperances in 2010.
