The Rangers confirmed that a team employee was at fault for Ron Washington’s pregame speech before Game 7 of the World Series being leaked to a sports blog.
The employee sent it to a close friend, and then it went on a viral path to the internet.
The club would not say whether the employee – a member of the traveling support staff – was terminated.
“It’s unacceptable,” Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. “It’s a private meeting for the team, and a privilege to be a part of and a privilege to be in the clubhouse and have access to it. Very poor judgment. That’s not what that meeting was for.”
Daniels said the organization is careful in who is allowed access into the clubhouse, and that anyone with that access – including the employee – understands the nature of the unwritten rules of the clubhouse.
"Everything we do is based on information, communication and trust," Daniels said.
The sports blog, JoeSportsFan.com, published the speech on Sunday.
