Mike Olt, Tanner Scheppers among non-roster invitees to Rangers camp

Third baseman Mike Olt, right-hander Tanner Scheppers and left-hander Robbie Ross are among the eight non-roster players who have been invited to big-league spring training. The most intriguing, though, is Tommy Mendonca, who is now a catcher.

The list includes five pitchers (Scheppers, Ross, Fabio Castillo, Greg Reynolds and Ben Snyder) and three position players (Olt, Mendonca and Greg Miclat). Olt will also be asked to try another position, first base, though third will remain his primary position. Mendonca, however, will be a catcher in 2012 as the Rangers attempt to get left-handed power from the catcher spot.
