Monday morning in Surprise: Elvis Andrus progressing

The Rangers are in the middle of a meeting about social media, which is probably a good thing. The first picture of the presentation was of Josh Hamilton on Friday morning. So, my guess is that there will be a discussion about how the media will pounce on something that seems insignificant.

Shortstop Elvis Andrus said that he will attempt to take grounders and hit in the cage today as his left heel is better. The swelling is down, he said, as is the pain after having a wart removed. The two remaining scars look like he was bitten by a really big spider.

Left-hander Joe Beimel isn't too worried about the stiffness in his left elbow. He won't throw today but is listed as day-to-day. He had some elbow issues last season, which the Rangers were well aware of when he was signed to a minor-league deal. Because it was a minor-league deal, the injury risk was worth taking.

Right-hander Matt West is throwing today after the Rangers gave him a day of rest Sunday. He said there are no issues anywhere in his arm.

The Rangers have only eight players not under contract for 2013 after 13 signed this morning. Those with new deals are OF Engel Beltre, $480,000; OF Julio Borbon, $490,000; RHP Jake Brigham, $480,000; LHP Miguel De Los Santos, $480,000; RHP Neftali Feliz, $502,000; RHP Wilmer Font, $480,000; RHP Mark Hamburger, $481,000; LHP Derek Holland, $504,700; LHP Michael Kirkman, $482,900; RHP Roman Mendez, $480,000; RHP Justin Miller, $480,000; RHP Alexi Ogando, $497,600; LHP Martin Perez $480,000.
