Friday morning Rangers update (with lineups)

News first, though there isn't a ton of it.

Adrian Beltre will be the designated hitters for a second straight day and will have a day off Friday. He isn't hurt, says assistant general manager Thad Levine, but the Rangers have designed a midcamp mini-break for Beltre, who plays hard from the first day he arrives. They are attempting to pace him somewhat to avoid a nagging injury, like the calf issue that popped up last spring, and to keep him as fresh as possible during the season. Maybe three days will make the difference.

Michael Young was not in the original lineup today. His left thumb is fine, and now he's in there.

Brad Hawpe (right hamstring) could make his way into the B game Saturday. He will take batting practice today and then face Matt Harrison and Mark Hamburger for some live batting practice after the initial workout.

The Rangers were well represented at the Mavs-Suns game Thursday night. Players who attended include Derek Holland, Mike Napoli, Julio Borbon, Mitch Moreland, Elvis Andrus and Joe Nathan.
