Ian Kinsler will sit out another day with mild lower back stiffness. Kinsler was a late scratch from Sunday's game, and said the back stiffness has been building gradually throughout spring training.
If it was the regular season, Kinsler would play through it but the Rangers are being cautious this early in spring training. Kinsler will take batting practice on the back fields today, and be re-evaluated on Tuesday.
Catcher Mike Napoli has also been given an extra day off. He continues to recover from mild left groin soreness, which affects him primarily when he's catching.
Other notes from Monday morning:
* Craig Gentry will return to game action today, backing up Nelson Cruz in rightfield this afternoon. He sat out on Sunday with a hamstring issue. Gentry said he feels fine, and the time off was simply precautionary.
* Brad Hawpe will play in his first A game of spring training today. He is backing up Michael Young this afternoon.
* Conor Jackson will also return to game action after taking Sunday off. His left eye is fully healed, and his vision has not been impaired. Jackson was hit above the left eye and needed five stitches after losing a ball in the sunlight.
* Catcher Dusty Brown will not play today. He has arm fatigue.
