The Rangers will go through a normal workout this morning and break for the day around 1:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. ahead of the start of the Cactus League schedule Sunday. The Rangers play Kansas City at 1:05 p.m. CST at Surprise Stadium, and enter the spring slate with only a few questions unresolved.
Mitch Moreland, for instance, said that the intrasquad games Thursday and Friday convinced him that his right wrist is fine. Joe Nathan hasn't had an reservations about the health of his right elbow. After watching Neftali Feliz and Yu Darvish in Friday's intrasquad game, Michael Young seems to be confident that the rotation newcomers will be fine come Opening Day.
Three spots can be won this spring: Center fielder, utility infielder and bullpen left-hander. Conor Jackson and Brad Hawpe would be valuable bench pieces who could shape how center field is determined.
Speaking of Hawpe, he will hit in the cage this morning and could throw on the field as the Rangers take it easy on his right hamstring. It cramped Thursday, and Hawpe was scratched from both intrasquad games.
Yorvit Torrealba has returned to camp after two days away, though with a hacking cough from a viral infection. The catcher will have a light workout.
Joe Beimel (left elbow stiffness) will throw live batting practice this morning, and Kelvin De La Cruz (left forearm stiffness) is back on a normal schedule after pitching one inning in the intrasquad game Friday.
