Derek Holland was efficient enough with his pitches that he had to finish his work in the bullpen on Sunday. Mitch Moreland followed up a three-hit 'B' game performance in the morning with a two-hit 'A' game performance in the afternoon, helping the Texas Rangers to a 6-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Surprise Stadium.
Holland allowed one run on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts over his three innings of work, needing only 40 pitches. He then headed to the bullpen to finish off his scheduled workload.
Moreland put Texas ahead 1-0 in the second inning with an RBI single to right, and later doubled to right in the fourth inning.
After the game, Ron Washington praised both Holland and Moreland. He also said he liked how left-hander Michael Kirkman threw the ball. Kirkman threw a scoreless ninth inning, getting a groundout and two fly outs.
A few other notes:
* Brad Hawpe played all seven innings in the 'B' game. He played first base and had three plate appearances, drawing a walk, grounding out on a broken-bat dribbler and reaching on an error.
* Ian Kinsler was scratched from Sunday's 'A' lineup with back stiffness. It's not considered serious, and he should be able to play on Monday.
* Mitch Moreland will get a day off on Monday after playing three straight games.
