Tuesday morning from Surprise: Derek Holland named Texas Rangers player rep; Napoli, Kinsler still sidelined

Derek Holland didn't put together a campaign or try to become the Texas Rangers' player rep. But he showed up Tuesday morning and saw a box by his locker informing him he was the team's new player rep.

"I was blindsided by it," Holland said. "I am going to do the best job I can."

Holland was voted by his teammates, and will attend all players' union meetings and keep the team aprised of the issues. Scott Feldman is the alternative player rep.

C.J. Wilson had been the Rangers player rep, but signed with the Los Angeles Angels in the off-season.

Other notes from Tuesday morning:

* Mike Napoli and Ian Kinsler will not return to game action today. Napoli still has lingering tightness in his left groin, and is expected to ease back into the catching role. He will likley DH before he catches. Kinsler remains out with back stiffness. "It's spring training," Kinsler said. "We're making sure it doesn't become chronic."

* First baseman/outfielder Conor Jackson will have his five stitches removed on Wednesday. He is in the lineup for today's game.
