Ian Kinsler won't negotiate a contract extension during the season. If he reaches an extension with the Texas Rangers before next offseason, it will have to happen before Opening Day on Friday against the Chicago White Sox.
"Right now, I've got three days left," Kinsler said. "I will not talk about it [during the season]."
The Rangers hold a team option on Kinsler for the 2013 season. If they don't pick it up for some reason, Kinsler could become a free agent after this season.
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said he didn't expect to sign any players to an extension before Opening Day, but didn't rule it out.
Kinsler responded to a question if he felt there could be an extension reached by Friday, by saying: "It could."
Kinsler wouldn't say if he felt optimistic about reaching one with the team, saying he simply wanted "to be treated fairly amongst his peers."
