A popular refrain from the Rangers' clubhouse is that it was too early to be in the Rangers' clubhouse. The Rangers and Twins are part of the Fox Sports national package, with the first pitch at 12:05 p.m. The Rangers didn't get out of Target Field until after 10 p.m Friday. Nelson Cruz explained his morning thusly, whilie lying on a couch in a hoodie: "I went to bed at probably 1:30, and the bus was at 9. I had to be downstairs at 8:30, so I woke up at 7:50. That's too early."
Manager Ron Washington said that he didn't notice if Yu Darvish was more relaxed leading up to his second major-league start today than in the days before his big-league debut Monday. "I haven't seen any change in his demeanor since he got here," Washington said. "He doesn't have anything to be nervous about."
Brandon Snyder, starting today because of Mitch Moreland's abscessed upper front tooth, said that he is equally comfortable at first base as he is third base, and is steadily showing improvement in the outfield. He has worked primarily in left field, but has also taken some flyballs in right. Snyder was a shortstop throughout high school until the Orioles drafted him and made him a catcher.
Here's a quirky stat: Ian Kinsler, Michael Young and Josh Hamilton enter today's game with identical .344 batting averages. Each player is 11 for 32 this season. Kinsler, though, is the major-league leader in total bases (28) and is tied in homers (four) and runs (10).
