Mariners 5, Rangers 3 (F)

SEATTLE -- Alex Liddi hit a grand slam in the fifth inning off Scott Feldman as Seattle beat the Rangers 5-3 on Wednesday at Safeco Field.

The victory clinched the series for the Mariners and left the Rangers at 10-10 after their stretch of 20 games in 20 days. Former Rangers staff ace Kevin Millwood tossed six scoreless innings to win his third consecutive start.

Feldman walked five, including one intentionally to load the bases for Liddi. Liddi lined the first pitch just over the out-of-town scoreboard in the left-field corner for a 5-0 lead. That was it for Feldman, who was starting in place of the injured Neftali Feliz.

That spot in the rotation comes up again Tuesday, against the Mariners at Rangers Ballpark. The Rangers haven't named a starter, but Feldman is a candidate because there aren't any other realistic options. Alexi Ogando isn't stretched out enough to handle a starter's workload, and he has tremendous value as a reliver. Free agent Roy Oswalt is about a month away from being able to pitch in a big-league game.

The Mariners scored once in the second after Feldman walked the first three hitters of the inning. He retired the next nine, a streak that was snapped with a walk to Michael Saunders to start the fifth. After a Mike Carp single and an error on Ian Kinsler on a pickoff play, Feldman got Brendan Ryan to ground out with the bases load.

Feldman walked Dustin Ackley intentionally to load the bases for a possible inning-ending double-play grounder, but Liddi didn't cooperate.

The Rangers waited until the eighth before their offense got going. Josh Hamilton doubled in Ian Kinsler with one out, and Adrian Beltre followed with a two-run homer.
