The Texas Rangers claimed left-hander John Gaub on a waiver claim from the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday. Gaub has been added to the Rangers 40-man roster. A corresponding move wasn't necessary, as the Rangers had 39 players on the 40-man after releasing -- and later re-signing -- right-hander Justin Miller last month.
Gaub, 27, will go to Triple A Round Rock. At Triple A Durham, Gaub went 0-1 with one save and a 4.32 ERA over 16 relief appearances. He was a 21st round pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft by the Cleveland Indians, and has also spent time in the Cubs organization.
He made his big-league debut with the Cubs in 2011, posting a 6.75 ERA over four relief appearances.
