Rangers general manager Jon Daniels addressed the Roy Oswalt signing on Wednesday, calling it a decision to put the team in position to win.
"This move was about winning," Daniels said.
Daniels said it's more difficult for teams to acquire talent because of the new restrictions on international signings, as well as the additional wild card format. More teams will be viewed as sellers rather than buyers at the trade deadline.
The Rangers stretched their budget to add Oswalt, but Daniels didn't know how it would affect the team's flexibility at the trade deadline.
"I think it's going to be on a case by case basis, where if there's an opportuinty to improve the club we'll talk it over on baseball side," Daniels said. "Then we'll go from there. It's kind of specultavie right now."
