Rain that moved into Downtown Baltimore about 30 minutes before the scheduled first pitch Wednesday never went away and forced the postponent of the Rangers' game against the Orioles.
The teams will play a doubleheader at 3:05 p.m. CDT Thursday to accommodate the rainout. Both games will be on Fox Sports Southwest. Colby Lewis and Derek Holland will pitch for the Rangers, while Wei-Yin Chen and possibly Tommy Hunter will pitch for the Orioles. Their original Thursday starter, Jason Hammel, was scratched with an injured right knee. Hunter had been optioned Monday, but can return before the 10-day window if the Orioles make a DL move.
The game was called at 8:05 p.m. local time, only moments after seven Rangers players emerged from the dugout, jogged to the left-field wall, and then sprinting to the infield before diving across the tarp. The participants were Josh Hamilton, Elvis Andrus, Michael Young, Brandon Snyder, Craig Gentry, Yorvit Torrealba and Robbie Ross.
"We're kids, man," Hamilton said. "It's a kid's game."
The Rangers will need an extra starter for the Sunday night game against Anaheim. Scott Feldman is the leading candidate, but manager Ron Washington will not commit to the right-hander until after the doubleheader.
