Derek Holland was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with left shoulder fatigue, though the move is more for general fatigue than a specific arm injury. Right-hander Tanner Scheppers had his Triple A contract purchased and will be in the bullpen today.
Alexi Ogando will start Sunday in Holland's place. John Gaub, claimed two weeks ago, has been designated for assignment to create a roster spot for Scheppers.
The Rangers put Holland through a workout Wednesday to see how he would recover from what was said to be a stomach virus that Holland has had since last month. He has dropped 15 pounds and appeared to run out of gas and velocity during a start Tuesday.
Holland was sent back to the Metroplex for a visit with Dr. Keith Meister and additions tests to delve deeper into the stomach virus.
