The Rangers will use the Monday off day to push Yu Darvish back a few days so that the right-hander can get some extra rest as others before him have gotten this season. The decision has nothing to do with his poor start Thursday, said manager Ron Washington.
The rotation beginning Tuesday will be: Colby Lewis, Matt Harrison and Scott Feldman in the Arizona series, and Darvish, Alexi Ogando and Lewis against the Astros.
Washington said that Darvish said he didn't need the rest but is planning to use the extra time to work on his mechanics, which failed him during a four-run fourth inning Thursday.
Roy Oswalt's next outing will be Tuesday at Albuquerque after he allowed five runs in four innings Thursday at Omaha. All five runs came in the third inning, when Royals propsect Wil Myers hit a grand slam.
Oswalt threw 56 pitches/38 strikes, and the plan is for him to push it to 75 to 80 next week. Washington said that he is "adamant" that Oswalt will make at least one more start after Tuesday before joining the Rangers' rotation.
Adrian Beltre said that he did not aggravate his strained left hamstring Thursday while making the last out of the game. He attempted to dodge a tag at first base and ran awkwardly, but he said his leg feels fine. He did not receive treatment after game, and didn't receive any today during the media's time in the clubhouse.
