The top pitching prospect in the Texas Rangers' farm system is coming to Arlington.
The team announced that left-hander Martin Perez will be called up for tonight's game against Detroit. A corresponding move will be announced later.
Perez will likely be another arm in the bullpen. Rangers relievers threw eight innings on Monday with Michael Kirkman throwing five innings and Mark Lowe three.
Martin, who the Rangers signed in 2007, has spent the entire season at Triple A Round Rock.
Perez has been a starter all season, going 5-5 with a 4.59 ERA in 15 starts. He has won his last two starts, allowing four hits and two runs in 16 innings, including a complete-game victory on June 21 against Iowa.
Perez was scheduled to start today for the Express.
