Right-hander Roy Oswalt participated in a conference call while driving to Arlington from Round Rock. He threw a bullpen session Tuesday that Nolan Ryan watched. Here are a few highlights:
On what he accomplished in minors: "The biggest thing down here was to build some arm strength and get back into pitching shape. Until you get out there and compete against hitters, there's nothing to duplicate that."
On readiness for major leagues: "I feel like I'm to the point now where if I stay down here and throw another seven innings, they don't really need me down there. It might take a game here or there to get acclimated back to the big-leagues and the pace of the game. But my arm strength is there and my body feels great."
On competitive juices: "That's what you play for, to get back out in the competition. You miss that when you're not around it."
On joining Rangers: "I'm looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to going out there and helping these guys get back to the playoffs."
On physical condition: "I feel great. I don't have any complications anywhere right now. The biggest thing is to get a couple starts where you get your muscle memory going."
