Monday pregame Rangers notes: No news on Neftali Feliz

Rangers manager Ron Washington had received no new information on the status of right-hander Neftali Feliz, who was scratched from his rehab start Sunday because of a new batch of elbow discomfort.

The lack of a new prognosis is curiously timed as the Rangers are attempting to straighent out their pitching plans for the stretch run.

Even if Feliz isn't expected to miss much time, it seems unlikely that he would return this season as a starter. But he could make an impact on the bullpen and allow Alexi Ogando to move to the rotation without needing to trade for a bullpen piece. With Feliz's status uncertain, it could force the Rangers' hand to get a reliever before the trade deadline or trade for a starter.

Mitch Moreland's status is certain. The first baseman was activated from the disabled list after missing the past month with a bad hamstring. He will bat ninth Monday against the Angels. Outfielder Leonys Martin was optioned to Triple A.

Josh Hamilton stayed in the fifth spot after Washington saw a more patient approach Sunday from the struggling slugger. Mike Napoli is also in the lineup agains this former team. He has a .386 average against the Angels with eight homers and 14 RBIs.
