Rangers right-hander Neftali Feliz allowed an unearned run in two innings Monday night for Double A Frisco in his first rehab start. He walked two, struck out four and allowed an infield hit while throwing 40 pitches. His fastball velocity was between 93 and 96 mph.
Jon Poorman, the Star-Telegram's intrepid summer intern, gathered up these quotes from Feliz, who will head to Round Rock on Friday for a three-inning start as he gets closer to returning from the elbow inflammation that sacked him after his May 18 start at Houston.
Feliz is rehabbing as a starting pitcher but could very well end up in the bullpen.
"The first thing is to be healthy," Feliz said. "I want to be ready to help the team. I'm trying to be ready as soon as I can and help the team in any way. I haven't been told anything. I just have to do my rehab and work to get healthy and be better. All I know is my next outing is on Friday at Round Rock."
"I was trying to keep my pitches low and, of course, throw strikes. I had gone a long time without pitching from the mound, but I was trying to practice all of my pitches."
