The Texas Rangers have agreed to their first trade of the season, acquiring catcher Geovany Soto and cash considerations from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Jake Brigham, according to baseball sources.
The deal has not been made official, as MLB has to approve the cash considerations.
Soto, the 2008 National League rookie of the year, is batting .195 with six home runs and 14 RBIs over 51 games this season. He is under club control for next season.
Mike Napoli and Yorvit Torrealba will both become free agents after the season.
Brigham, 24, is 5-5 with a 4.28 ERA in 21 starts at Double A Frisco this season.
