Rangers playing catch-up in final hour before trade deadline

The final 60 minutes will likely fly by for general manager Jon Daniels and the rest of the Rangers' front office as they try to add a pitching piece before the trade deadline arrives at 3 p.m.

According to reports, Ryan Dempster has informed the Cubs that he would accept a trade to the Rangers. The Rangers had a scout at Matt Garza's bullpen session Monday, but hadn't made much progress as of earlier today.

The Rangers like Jared Burton, the Twins' right-handed reliever, and are reportedly working on getting him. That would allow the Rangers to move Alexi Ogando into the starting rotation.

A source had said Monday that the Rangers made no progress in a deal for Cleveland outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, and the club never contacted Colorado about Rafael Betancourt.

Josh Beckett is no longer an option, though the Rangers and Boston got close over the weekend. According to sources, a deal was thought to be in place before it fell through.
