Mike Napoli is wearing a knee brace to help reduces the sweeling around the bruise he suffered near his right knee Friday night. The bruise is to the base of his quadriceps muscle, and it remains sore when he squats. The plan is to keep him out until Tuesday at Oakland.
Manager Ron Washington, though, said that Napoli could catch in a pinch and is still the preferred emergency option to Brandon Snyder. Triple A catcher Luis Martinez has been summoned to Seattle just in case, and could be activated without Napoli having to go on the disabled list.
"I'm just going to do whatever to get the swelling down," Napoli said. "I'm day to day, I guess. I woke up pretty sore, and it was pretty swollen."
Barring a setback tonight on his rehab assignment, Alexi Ogando will join the Rangers before the Oakland series, and Koji Uehara could also join the club after just one rehab appearance tonight.
Matt Harrison said that it took him an extra day to shake off his All-Star Game experience. The biggest problem was a lack of sleep, which he said he took care of Thursday, but it was also difficult to get his body back into his normal routine. Harrison is scheduled to start Sunday, and is 8-1 with a 2.51 in his career against Seattle.
