Martin Perez will become an additional long man in the Rangers' bullpen after allowing one run over six innings on Tuesday. His spot in the rotation will be taken by Roy Oswalt, scheduled for Sunday's start against the Chicago White Sox.
Scott Feldman is slated to start Monday against the Angels, as the Rangers will go with a rotation of Oswalt-Feldman-Derek Holland-Yu Darvish-Matt Harrison for now. They could trade for an additional pitcher by Tuesday's July 31 trading deadline.
Manager Ron Washington has been following the trade market, and says the Rangers are no different than any other team.
"Everybody is trying to get better," Washington said. "We're trying, too."
Here are a few other notes:
* Neftali Feliz threw three scoreless innings in his third medical rehabilitation start on Tuesday for Triple A Round Rock. Ron Washington said Feliz was a little erratic with his fastball command, but it was an improvement over Feliz's first two rehab starts. Feliz will remain with Triple A Round Rock, and is scheduled to throw five innings and 75 pitches on Sunday in Memphis.
* Ron Washington called the play Adrian Beltre made on a bunt by Pedro Ciriaco on Tuesday something he's never seen. Beltre charged the ball, scooped it up bare-handed and made an accurate throw to first while falling over. Washington said that would be a bunt single against any other third baseman in the league.
* Colby Lewis is scheduled to undergo surgery on his torn flexor tendon on Friday morning. It will be performed by Rangers team physician Keith Meister.
