Wrapping up Rangers 6-2 loss to Angels

Michael Young said the Texas Rangers’ morale isn’t a cause for concern after going 9-14 in July, losing the last two games of the month to the Los Angeles Angels.

“Morale is fine,” Young said after the Rangers' lead in the American League West drop to three games over the Angels, who won 6-2 on Tuesday.

“We’ve been through a lot together. We’ve been through a lot of big games. We’ve been through big wins, tough losses. We know morale doesn’t get affected. This is a mentally strong group.”

It’s the Rangers’ first losing month since they went 13-15 in May of 2011.

Here are a few postgame notes:

* Derek Holland gave up six runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. He retired 10 of the first 11 batters he faced before giving up a solo home run to Albert Pujols with one out in the fourth.

* Speaking of Pujols, he had two home runs off Holland, his 43rd career multi-homer game. He went deep three times in Game 3 of last year’s World Series at Rangers Ballpark.

* Josh Hamilton has scored a run in three straight games since being moved to fifth in the lineup. … David Murphy had a two-run double off Jered Weaver in the seventh, and has doubled in six consecutive starts. … Mitch Moreland had a single in the sixth, and has had a base hit each of his first two games back from the disabled list.

* Right-hander Colby Lewis was back in the clubhouse and said his surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow went well. He is in no pain.
