Thursday's Rangers pregame notes: Mike Olt plan

Mike Olt will get his fair share of playing time with the Texas Rangers.

Olt will start against left-handed pitchers, either at first base or designated hitter, manager Ron Washington said. He will also see time at third base, possibly against right-handers, when Adrian Beltre serves as the DH.

Olt makes his big league debut tonight, starting at first and batting eighth, against the Los Angeles Angels.

Olt, of course, is excited to be in the big leagues. He found out the news from Double A Frisco manager Steve Buechele on Wednesday night, and immediately broke the news to his parents.

Olt said he feels comfortable at first base, and has been working there daily. He has also played a few games in the outfield, but the Rangers will only play him there in an emergency situation.

Here are a few other notes:

* Ron Washington said the momentum gained from the dramatic victory on Wednesday night would only go as far as tonight's starting pitcher, Ryan Dempster, would take it. Still, Washington was pleased to see how his team responded after being down by six runs and enduring what he called an "embarassing" third inning.

* Roy Oswalt will be available out of the bullpen tonight. The Rangers moved him into a relief role with the addition of Ryan Dempster.
