Former Rangers catcher Yorvit Torrealba is "close" to signing with the Toronto Blue Jays, according to a source.
Torrealba was designated for assignment after the Rangers acquired Geovany Soto from the Cubs on July 31. He was batting .236 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 49 games with the Rangers.
Torrealba signed a two-year, $6.25 million contract with the Rangers before the 2011 season. Texas wasn't able to find a trade partner for Torrealba, and it will be responsible for the remaining salary.
