Rangers brass will leave the general managers meetings with at least one new player after trading for left-handed reliever Tommy Hottovy on Thursday morning.
Hottovy, 31, has 13 1/3 career big-league innings. Most of those, 9 1/3, came last season with Kansas City, who receives cash considerations and a player to be named.
Hottovy spent most of 2012 at Triple A Omaha, where he was a Pacific Coast League All-Star. He held left-handed hitters to a .147 (11 for 75) average and .221 (42-190) overall. He also walked just 16 while striking out 61.
The Royals had designated Hottovy for assignment Friday. He takes a spot on the 40-man roster, putting the Rangers at 35.
