Infielder Leury Garcia and left-hander Joe Ortiz have been added to the Texas Rangers' 40-man roster, which protects them from next month's Rule 5 draft.
The club also announced it re-acquired right-hander Jake Brigham from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for right-hander Barret Loux and a player to be named later. The deal comes about as the Rangers and Cubs reworked the Geovany Soto trade from last season because of an injury to Brigham.
Brigham has also been added to the 40-man roster, which has 38 players on it.
Garcia spent last season at Double A Frisco, batting .292 with 12 doubles, 11 triples, two home runs and 30 RBIs. Ortiz went 2-3 with six saves and a 2.15 ERA over 51 relief outings with Frisco and Triple A Round Rock.
The Rangers also signed right-hander Johan Yan to a minor league contract with an invitation to big league spring training.
Finally, the team announced that left-hander Matt Harrison was selected as the team's 2012 pitcher of the year, voted on by the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.
