What to do with Geovany Soto?

That's what the Rangers are pondering as the non-tender deadline approaches at 11 tonight. The Rangers want to have Soto, acquired from the Cubs on July 30, on the roster. The pitching staff worked well with him, and he does have some pop in his bat. The Rangers are already in the market for one veteran catcher, and having to find two could complicate their off-season even further. But the club doesn't want to pay Soto the money he could make in his final year of salary arbitration, somwhere between $5 million and $6 million. They don't see Soto as a full-time catcher, and would prefer to keep his salary more in line with what a veteran backup makes. If they can't reach a deal by the 11 p.m. deadline, Soto won't be tendered a 2013 contract and will become a free agent. -- Jeff Wilson
