Mike Olt has been selected as the Tom Grieve Minor League Player of the Year, and Cody Buckel is the Nolan Ryan Minor League pitcher of the year as announced by the Rangers on Friday.
Other minor-league award winners are Engel Beltre, the Defensive Player of the Year, and Ben Rowen, the Reliever of the Year. The quartet will receive their awards next Friday during the Dr Pepper Awards Show, which is now part of the two-day FanFest weekend at the Arlington Convention Center.
Arlington native Hunter Pence (Texas Professional Player of the Year) and John Burkett (Mark Holtz Alumni Award) will also be part of the awards program.
Two catchers who were in roster limbo have had their immediate futures determined. Luis Martinez was claimed off waivers by Baltimore, which still lists collecting former Rangers as one of its hobbies. Eli Whiteside cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Triple A Round Rock.
